For many travelers, their time in LutherCountry is a journey of self-discovery – a chance to escape life’s many pressures and spend some much-needed time focusing on mind, body, and soul. Martin Luther traveled everywhere on foot. For a spiritual vacation, walk or cycle part of the Luther Trail, linking places that he visited. In northern LutherCountry, part of the trail runs from Lutherstadt Eisleben to Lutherstadt Wittenberg.
Near Erfurt, in southern LutherCountry, a memorial marks the spot, where Luther was almost struck by lightning in 1505, changing his life…and world history. Near Eisenach, hike the Dragon’s Canyon (Drachenschlucht), a 2-mile-long gorge with 35-ft rock walls – but barely 3 feet wide! (No, there are no dragons!). And, when you visit Wartburg Castle, enjoy spectacular views from the lookout.
