The 46th International Dixieland Festival is a Dresden
phenomenon with a long history and, just by the by, the longest-running old-time jazz festival in Europe. From May 15th thru 22nd 2016, some 30 events will be taking place in the center of Dresden and all across the city, with over 40 bands from 8 countries, many of them free of charge, and accompanied by spectacular supporting events.
The International Dixieland Festival is not just international but also very much family-friendly. On 15 May there will be a family Dixieland event at Dresden Zoo, and on May 18th and 19th there will be a show in the Rundkino on Prager Straße introducing children to Dixieland. Thousands of people will line the Elbe as the world’s largest paddle steamer fleet, bedecked in brightly colored flags, takes over the Elbe for the Riverboat Shuffle (May 19th from 7.30 p.m., Terrassenufer). One of the highlights of the festival will be the Bundeswehr Big Band, making their first guest appearance in Dresden.
