The American/Schleswig-Holstein Heritage Society (ASHHS) will host a Friendship Conference August 21 to Aug 25 at the Stoney Creek Hotel and Convention Center in Moline, IL. The conference begins with a buffet meal on Friday evening at the center. The conference begins at 9:00 a.m. Saturday.
The theme of the conference is “Arriving in America” and will present a picture of what immigrants experienced when they first arrived in the new land. Speakers for the conference will present “Corn and Khrushchev,” “Flora and Fauna of early Iowa” and “Genealogy Across the Atlantic.”
Other activities planned following the conference are farm tours, a Riverboat cruise, a low-German church service, museum and area tours and Deere factory and home tours. The cost of the conference is $50 and includes the Friday night dinner and Saturday noon lunch. The cost of the Riverboat cruise is $50 and includes a prime rib dinner and entertainment.
The goal of ASHHS is to preserve and promote the heritage of Schleswig-Holstein in the USA. They encourage cultural exchange, family research, study of the languages and dialects of Schleswig-Holstein, conferences and other programs pursuant to the above objectives.
